These prefilters are sold by the dozen and are most commonly used in canning units. By using a prefilter one is able to get more syrup through the main filter before having to change it. Some producers will use multiple prefilters before the syrup goes through the final filter. The prefilters can be rinsed and reused but are designed to be tossed after a few uses.
